All About The Shoes

Walk into any golf shop, and you can take your pick from a variety of golf shoes with different designs and features.

But what do you really need?

That depends on a number of things. Are you a golfer who loves to ride in the cart, or do you prefer to walk from hole to hole? Do you want a lighter, sneaker-style shoe or a more traditional, structured shoe? There are a lot of things to consider when selecting your pair, so here are some important features you should look for.

When you’re trying on shoes at the golf shop, you might notice that certain pairs make you feel more solid on your feet while some obviously lack stability. If you practiced your swing barefoot, you can see just how much your feet move as you play. When you put these factors together, you’ll understand how important stability is to your game. Most golf shoes have stabilizers built in along the side of the arches and midfoot support. Spiked shoes are another good option because they help your feet stay firm regardless of the terrain.

If you look closely as you examine the shoes at the golf shop, you’ll see that many have a broader shoe base than a sneaker or loafer. The reason is that, unlike other athletic shoes made for quick, sustained movements, but because golf is a standing game, the need for a wide base to provide better balance is crucial.

Many times, golf is played on less than ideal terrain. There are slopes, hills and sand traps to contend with, which can lead to taking a shot at an awkward angle. Unlike football or basketball shoes that keep the ankle tight and rigid, golf shoes need to provide support and flexibility so that you can angle your body, and your feet, correctly. This will not only help you make a better shot but will also reduce your chance of injury.

This may seem like a no-brainer, but when you’re on your feet for 18 holes, you need shoes that are comfortable and keep your feet safe from fatigue. You’ll find many pairs at your local golf shop and can explore the options, including whether you like padded soles, if you want your shoes to be waterproof, and how well the shoes allow your feet to breathe.

When you’re searching for a reliable pair of golf shoes, there are many things to keep in mind, including stability, balance, flexibility, and comfort.

Visit your local golf shop to see what options are available to you.

You might be surprised by how many pairs of shoes have the functions you need and still let you show your style on the course.
